GREAT DRINKS NEED SERIOUS SNACKS.
LIKE ALL THE BEST STORIES…
…IT STARTS DOWN THE PUB.
A few years ago, while enjoying craft beers at his local pub, our founder, George Rice, realised that pub snacks needed love to stand up to the bold flavours of new-wave craft brewers.
That night left George hungry for a true taste experience, sparking a quest to find the finest ingredients and craft the tastiest snacks. Because when it comes to flavour, you need great produce.
And so, Serious Pig was born, starting with our debut snack, Snackalami. Made from outdoor-reared British pork, in collaboration with pioneering Kentish farmers, the Snackalami embodied our mission: to make savoury snacking with real taste.
Over the last decade, our range has expanded to include a variety of savoury delights, and our community of producers has grown too, without whom these incredible flavours wouldn’t be possible.
In our journey to create exceptional snacks, we’ve always aimed to do more than just make great products, we want to make a positive impact. That’s why we’re proud to be on the path to becoming a certified B Corporation, committed to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
From the local pub to scouring the globe, George’s foodie calling has put us on the map, providing the best nibbles to elevate life’s best moments.
Whether it’s gifting flavour or sharing a drink with a friend, we’re here to help you savour every moment. Bringing serious snacks to foodies everywhere is what makes us happy.
serious ABOUT ingredients.
OUR MEAT.
We only work with the best outdoor reared farms where pigs enjoy a happy life with freedom to express their natural behaviour.
We source locally too, and ensure the distance between the farm and butchery is within an hour’s drive and all within the county of Kent. We know our supply chain inside out and have worked with these wonderful people for many years, so we understand where every single ingredient comes from.
OUR DAIRY.
We use whole virgin wheels of Quattrocento Italian cheese for our award winning Snacking Cheese. The cheese is made with milk farmed from a sustainable Italian cooperative of dairy farmers. With an ingredient this good, there’s no need for much else! Our Classic Snacking Cheese had just three ingredients; milk, salt and vegetarian rennet.
OUR CORN.
Our Giant Corn Scratchings are harvested with love in the high-altitude Cuzco Valley in Peru where the corn stalks reach over 5.5m metres in height and the kernels grown incredibly large. The team takes great care to ensure every kernel meets the requirements for quality, colour, aroma and flavour ensuring that, once tossed here in the UK in a blend of sage, sea salt and white pepper, each big crunch delivers a wonderful umami taste reminiscent of a traditional pork scratching.
OUR POTATOES.
The Yorkshire potatoes used for our Sausage Flavour Crisps are what, we think, makes them so incredibly delicious! Grown by farmers on the chalky soils of the Yorkshire Wolds, once harvested the potatoes are hand-cooked in small batches with pure sunflower oil to get that crisp perfection. They’re then coated in our 100% natural (vegan) sausage flavouring for that totally moreish finishing touch.
OUR PICKLES.
Did you know that India is the world’s biggest exporter of Gherkins? The name “gherkin” comes from the Dutch word “gurken,” which means small pickled cucumber.
Gherkin cultivation, processing and exports started in India during the early 1990s with a modest beginning in Karnataka and later extended to the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where two crops are grown annually.
The ideal soil type and the desirable temperatures of not less than 15 degrees centigrade and not more than 35 degrees Centigrade make these regions desirable for Gherkins cultivation.
We select the best quality Indian gherkins from established growers in these regions and ensure they’re pickled to perfection to get the tanginess quotient just right.
OUR TEAM.
Our secret ingredient! We’ve been extremely fortunate to attract a team of wonderful people here in West London who share the same values as George did when he set out to elevate the world of snacking.
A commitment to quality – a meticulous approach to sourcing and handling food products. Our team makes sure every snack is delivered to you in top-notch condition and is beautifully presented.
Decency – we’re a positive and ethical bunch from farm to fork, treating everyone honestly and respectfully to ensure our loyal customers receive the very best service. We’re proud to adhere to the London Living Wage scheme.
OUR MISSION.
Serious Pig’s Small Acts for a Big Impact.
We believe that the small steps we take today can lead to a much bigger, positive impact for the planet and our community tomorrow. As snack enthusiasts and pioneers, we’re not just here to deliver great flavours; we’re on a mission to make snacking better for people and the environment.
Our Pledge For A Greener Future
We know that packaging matters. Currently, about half of our packaging is recyclable, while the other half requires specialist drop-off at supermarkets—something we know isn’t ideal. That’s why we’re investing in new technologies, like high-density paper packaging, to make all our packaging easily recyclable by 2030. Our goal? To enable customers to recycle 100% of our packaging at home.
Carbon Footprint – Starting Small
We’ve measured our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and we’re proud to report that both are at zero. While we have plans to address Scope 3 emissions in the future, our immediate focus is on eliminating packaging waste going to landfill. One step at a time!
Wellbeing and Inclusivity
As well as being a proud Living Wage Employer we regularly conduct wellbeing surveys to keep our finger on the pulse of how our team is feeling and to find new ways to support their wellbeing, career growth, and inclusivity. After all, our team is at the heart of what we do!
Supporting Communities, One Meal at a Time
We’re committed to giving back through our partnership with City Harvest, to whom we donate a percentage of our sales revenue each year and provide regular food parcels to those in need. Each year, our goal is to have provided 10,000 meals to those experiencing food poverty. Every bite makes a difference.
Getting Stuck In!
Our team is as passionate about helping others as they are about snacks. Members of our team volunteered up to three working days in 2024 to support local causes, and we’ll be incentivising even more of our team to get involved next year. Watch this space!
Biodiversity Is Important To Us
We recognise that the production of our snacks whether they involve dairy, pork, or vegetables can have an indirect impact on biodiversity through the farming methods used by our suppliers. While we don’t farm or manufacture raw ingredients ourselves, we do take steps to choose suppliers who share our values.
Our pork supplier operates with a focus on environmental stewardship and biodiversity protection. Our dairy supplier, has published clear commitments to reducing their environmental footprint. We’re currently engaging with our vegetable supplier, to gather more detailed information on the farming practices used in their supply chain.
Though we don’t yet have biodiversity-specific targets, we’re committed to improving transparency across our supply chain and will continue to work with our partners to reduce negative impacts wherever possible.
Our Commitment to Animal Welfare
Animal welfare is a core part of our sourcing philosophy at Serious Pig. We are committed to working only with suppliers who share our belief in ethical, humane, and sustainable farming practices.
We source all our pork exclusively from a third-generation family farm in Suffolk, UK. It specialises in high welfare, outdoor-reared pigs and places the human–animal relationship at the centre of its farming model. The farm has been recognised with a Good Pig Award by Compassion in World Farming for exceeding industry welfare standards.
For our dairy-based products, we partner with one of Italy’s largest dairy cooperatives. It has implemented a comprehensive programme that measures over 90 welfare indicators, covering animal conditions, housing, and management practices. Their goal is to continuously improve standards across their network of more than 600 milk-producing farms, ranging from small family farms to larger commercial operations.
While we do not currently publish formal KPIs related to animal welfare, we actively monitor supplier performance and only work with producers who can demonstrate robust welfare practices. We are also committed to improving supply chain transparency and will continue to engage with our partners on this important issue.
Responsible Alcohol Sales
At Serious Pig, we take our responsibilities around the sale of alcohol seriously and are committed to promoting responsible consumption.
We sell a limited range of alcoholic beverages – typically in gift boxes or hampers – alongside our snacks. Alcohol sales account for a small percentage of our overall revenue. While we are not a drinks company, we recognise the importance of managing alcohol sales responsibly.
We comply fully with all UK regulations related to the sale and distribution of alcohol. Our website requires customers to confirm they are over 18 before purchasing any alcohol-inclusive products, and we use an age-verified delivery service that ensures alcohol can only be delivered to the named adult recipient.
In addition:
-
A “Drink Responsibly” message is clearly displayed on every product page that includes alcohol.
-
All relevant team members receive training in age verification procedures.
-
We hold a valid Premises Licence and have a designated Personal Licence Holder on staff.
As we grow, we’ll continue reviewing best practices to ensure our alcohol-related products are sold safely, legally, and with care.
