Not to be outdone by James May, Jeremy Clarkson has now joined the Serious Pig universe with the arrival of the Serious Pig & Hawkstone Pub In The Post.
If the Hawkstone name rings a bell, it’s because Hawkstone is the brewery featured in Clarkson’s Farm, which has become something of a national obsession. But far from being just a TV tie-in, Hawkstone’s credentials are built on process. From six-week lager maturation (well beyond the industry norm) to champagne yeast for their cider, extra time and care is present in every sip.
In the box you’ll find four of them. Hawkstone Premium Lager, the flagship: bold but balanced, smooth-bodied with a touch of light citrus. Hawkstone Session, a crisp, clean 4% pilsner with a subtle floral edge. Hawkstone IPA, bursting with tropical fruit and citrus over a rich malt base. And Hawkstone Cider, a medium dry with plenty of flavour and character, made with barley-farmer stubbornness and, yes, champagne yeast.
Alongside them, nine packs of our Great Taste Award winning snacks: two each of Crunchy Snacking Cheese, Snacking Pickles, Sausage Flavour Crisps and Corn Scratchings, plus a pack of Snackalami. The scratchings and the lager are a particularly good match, the salt smoothing out the beer and the sage and white pepper seasoning adding a little warmth. There’s a heavyweight beer glass in there too, and a tasting card telling you what to pair with what.
All of which is a long way of saying: this has “excellent gift” written all over it.
